This page explains how we support the EU/UK GDPR and similar privacy laws. It complements our Privacy Policy and is provided for transparency, not as legal advice.
Overview
If you're in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or a region with comparable rules, the GDPR (or its local equivalent) gives you specific rights over your personal data. We designed Locinote so the two rights people care about most — getting a full copy of your data and deleting it — are one action in the app, not a support ticket.
Who controls your data
Locinote is the data controller for the personal data we process about you. You can contact us at support@locinote.com for any privacy request. We will designate a formal EU/UK representative where legally required before general availability.
Legal bases for processing
- Contract — to provide the Service you signed up for (storing and syncing your notes, managing your subscription).
- Legitimate interests — to keep the Service secure and prevent abuse, balanced against your rights.
- Consent — where we ask for it (for example, optional features you turn on). You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation — to comply with the law.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- Access — get a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification — correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Erasure — have your data deleted ("right to be forgotten").
- Portability — receive your data in a portable, machine-readable format.
- Restriction — limit how we process your data in certain cases.
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Withdraw consent — where processing relies on consent.
- Complain — lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
How to exercise them
Most rights are self-service in Locinote:
- Access & portability: use Settings → Export to download all your notes as ENEX, Markdown, or HTML — free, any time. This is a complete, portable copy of your content.
- Erasure: use Settings → Delete account and confirm. This permanently removes your notes, notebooks, attachments, and sign-in record.
- Rectification: edit your notes and profile directly at any time.
For restriction, objection, or anything you can't do in-app, email support@locinote.com. We'll respond within the timeframe the law requires (generally one month) and won't charge for reasonable requests.
Data we process
In short: your account details, the content you create or import, and your subscription status — plus the minimal technical data needed to run and secure the Service. We do notcollect location data, run advertising, or use third-party analytics SDKs, and there is no AI that processes your notes. The full breakdown is in our Privacy Policy.
Processors & international transfers
We use a small set of processors (cloud hosting and database, purchase validation, and — only if you use email-to-note — inbound email) listed in the Privacy Policy. Some may process data outside your region, including in the United States. Where required, these transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
Retention
We keep your personal data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your data from our live systems; residual copies in backups are purged on our normal cycle, and we retain information longer only where the law requires.
Complaints
We'd like the chance to resolve any concern first — please reach out. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. In the EU, you can contact your national authority; in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
